Used to treat infection in the interior of the tooth – also sometimes known as the dental pulp – root canal treatments remove the infection and decayed portion of the tooth. If left untreated, this type of infection can lead to inflammation, severe pain and sensitivity, an abscess, loose tooth, and even tooth loss or the need for extraction.
During the treatment, we’ll first administer local anaesthetic, so you’re completely comfortable and pain-free throughout. We’ll then thoroughly clean the root canals, removing the infection, and disinfecting the tooth. We’ll then use a rubber-type material to fill in the tooth and seal it back up to prevent any further infection. In some cases, we may also apply a crown to the tooth, depending on the extent of the damage.
